2022/2023 Audition Information

BDC Competition Team is open to dancers ages 3 to 18. 

Competition Dance TeamsPetite Team (ages 3 1/2 -5)
A NON-AUDITION TEAM
This is our team for the youngest dancers, no prior dance training necessary. Our Petite Team class meets once a week for one hour. We teach our Petites Ballet, Jazz and Tap technique. Also, within this hour we work on the choreography for one dance which will be competed at two regional competitions. See Handbook for more details.
 

Petite Elite Team (Ages 5-6)

A NON-AUDITION TEAM

This team is NEW.  Our Petite Elite Team is for the dancer who has been a member of the Petite Team for a year and hasn’t turned 6 yet, or for any dancer who is 6 but isn’t ready for the full Mini Team experience.

This team will learn one dance and compete at 2 regional competitions.  They are required to take Ballet, Acro and Tap once a week in addition to their ½ hour weekly rehearsal.  Summer is optional but strongly suggested.  There is no audition for this team, simply fill out paperwork and your dancer will be registered for their required Fall classes. See Handbook for more details.

 

Mini Team (ages 6-8)

This team is for the dancer who has taken some recreational classes or was on our Petite team and now is ready for more competition experience. Minis will meet twice a week. They will take individual classes in Ballet, Acrodance, Tap, Leaps & Turns, and Hip Hop. Minis will learn two or more dances and compete at 3 regionals. Auditions necessary to be a part of this team. Mini Elite Team (Ages 7-9)

They are dancers who excel in dance class, can pick up choreography easily, have strong acro skills and flexibility.  This team will learn 4 dances, compete at 3 regional competitions and 1 competition/convention. They are also eligible for solos.

Mini Elite Competition dancers are required to take Mini Elite Ballet, Mini Elite Tap, Mini Elite Hip Hop, Mini Elite Leaps & Turns and Mini Elite Acro (Summer & Fall). In order to be a member of this team, dancers need to commit to the full year of competition starting by taking summer classes and moving into Fall classes.  Mini Elites must attend the auditions on June 12th in order to be placed onto this team. Mini Elites may be considered for a solo.  Solos are by invitation only. See Handbook for more details.

 

Junior Team (ages 9-11)

This team is for the dancer who has a couple years of dance training, or competition experience. Dancer dance several days a week and take class in Ballet, Tap, Acrodance, Hip Hop, and Leaps & Turns. juniors will learn two or more dances and compete at 3 regionals and one convention/competiiton. Auditions necessary to be a part of this team. See Handbook for more details.


Junior Elite Team (Ages 9-12)

This is our team for the dancer that excels in all areas of dance, has solid turns, flexibility and is able to pick up choreography quickly.   Solos are by invitation only.  Teens will attend 1 in studio dance convention, 3 regional competitions & 1 convention/competition. This team may be considered for a guest choreographer. See Handbook for more details.

 

Teen Team Ages (12-14)
This team is for the dancer who has a several years of dance training, or competition experience. Dancers will dance several days a week and take class in Ballet, Pointe/Pre Pointe, Tap, Acrodance, Hip Hop, and Leaps & Turns. Teens will learn two or more dances and compete at 3 regionals and one convnetion/competition. Auditions necessary to be a part of this team. See Handbook for more details.


Senior Team (ages 14 & Older)
This team is for the dancer who has a several years of dance training, or competition experience. Dancers will dance several days a week and take class in Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Acrodance, Hip Hop, and Leaps & Turns. Seniors will learn two or more dances and compete at 3 regionals and one convnetion/competition. Auditions necessary to be a part of this team. See Handbook for more details.

Parent Informational Meeting

An informational parent meeting will be offered 1 month prior to our 2022/2023 auditions.  Parents should plan to attend this meeting to hear all details regarding being a part of the BDC competition team.

Auditions for the 2022/2023 team will be announce in April 2022.

Audition Details

Dancers will attend a 3 hour audition at BDC according to their age.  Ages 9 & under will attend one session and dancer 10 & older will attend a separate audition.  At the audition dancers will learn a 1-2 minute rountine and then be asked to perform the routine in groups of 4-6.  Dancers will be asked to show their turns, leaps, flexibilty and acro skillls during their small group audition. 

Dancers should wear clean comfortable dance attire.  Hair should be secured away from their face.  They should bring all dance shoes to the audititon. 

1 week after the audition the parent will be notified via email of their dancers results.  If they make the team, details of their placment will be in the email.  A parent & dancer meeting will be scheduled shortly after the team announments.  In the meeting all dates for the years commitment will be reviewed.
